Description

La Casita Bonita is located in 4000 sqm of private grounds in the mountains above the picturesque whitewashed Spanish village of Sayalonga. The coast is 20 minutes drive away at Torre del Mar, which boasts the longest beach in the Costa del Sol. Nerja is only 30 minutes and Malaga can be reached in 40 minutes. Stunning views down the valley to the sea and across to the surrounding white villages from the pool terrace make this an unforgettable holiday home.

This traditional cortijo has 3 bedrooms, a double, a triple and a twin each with modern en-suite bath or shower rooms, an open plan lounge with log burning stove and a good sized rustic style kitchen with all modern appliances. All the rooms have authentic beamed and caned ceilings. At the entrance to the house there is a wonderful vine covered terrace and to the side the original old bread oven has been preserved.

The mosaic tiled pool which is approx. 8 x 4m2 is solar heated and has a tiled and balustraded terrace. The garden has many mature olive and almond trees and shrubs. Tucked away below the property there are grape drying beds, an original grape press and a ruin.

Living Area

The living/dining room occupies most of the ground floor. Here you'll find satellite TV, and a stereo. Not that you'll be spending much time inside. Ornaments adorn the walls making it feel just like a home. For winter nights there is a log burning stove, all warm and cosy. Note: Walls due to be returned to white during March 2007.

Stairs lead up to the twin and triple bedrooms, each of which have stunning views to the mountains. Thick stone walls with beamed and caned ceilings retain the old Spanish feel. Traditional touches like water jars nestling in recesses in the walls have been retained. Real stone walls help keep the interior cooler in the blazing summer heat.

There is a wonderful, traditional cortijo kitchen with tiled worktops and painted doors, but it's not lacking in modern appliances. Fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, cooker are all here. You'll find the washing machine in an outside room - so its noise doesn't disturb the tranquility of the house. Also for safety reasons the gas fired water heater is safely located an outside cupboard.

Outside

There's more than adequate space on the terrace to relax in the sun. Or take shade under the vine-covered pergola. If you're there at the right time, fresh grapes are yours for the taking from the huge vine.

The old bread oven has been retained and can be used for outside cooking, salmon steaks wrapped in tin foil with a little fresh lemon and a few herbs, mmnnnn. There is also a barbecue if you fancy the more traditional steaks or burgers. If you don't want to cook then a couple of kilometres away in Sayalonga you'll find half a dozen restaurants serving full meals or tapas.

The pool is approx 8m x 4m with full width roman steps at one end. Solar heating keeps the water that bit warmer than normal, and extends its usage period. There is ample terracing to relax and soak up the Spanish sun, along with an outside shower and lighting fitted around the terrace so you can enjoy your bottle of wine, or two alfresco in the evenings.

The house sits in approximately 4000sqm of private gardens, much of it terraced where you'll find many mature olive and almond trees. If you're here at the right time, you can pick lemons off the tree. A good deal of the garden is terraced and there are many spots where you can relax under the shade of an old tree, just soaking up the views and mountain atmosphere. There are stunning views over the mountains and the Mediterranean beyond.

Aside from mature trees you'll find many other garden plants, such as this huge prickly pear cactus.
