Last weekend of July

Feria San Sabastian

At the end of July each year, Cómpeta hosts its annual Fería (country fair), which usually lasts for four days.  Each night there's dancing and live music and usually at least one opportunity to see Flamenco or Sevillana dancing.  This is a truly fun time when the local people hardly sleep at all.

15th August

Noche del Vino

One of the biggest festivals in the town takes place in August. This is the Noche del Vino, the Night of Wine. The celebrations begin in the morning at the Avenida de Torrox, where wine, migas (fried breadcrumbs), salad and cod are handed out to the assembled masses. This goes on until about three of four in the afternoon, followed by flamenco music when the party really begins, with wine served from a huge barrel in the square.

7th September

Dia de las Lumbres

On "Noche del Fuego", villagers go to their country houses to celebrate bonfire night. On this night the countryside is illuminated by small fires.
